HubSpot import error: "Multiple companies with this domain"
CRM contact cleanup
We clean and dedupe CRM import files and send back an import-ready CSV. Fully asynchronous - no meeting required.
You imported companies and the import summary says Multiple companies with this domain. Here is what HubSpot says it means, a free checker for your file, and the steps we follow.
What the error means
HubSpot's import troubleshooting article says the import file contains a Company domain name value that matches multiple companies in your HubSpot account, and the import did not update the company record. In other words, the duplicate is already in your CRM, not only in your file.
Source: HubSpot Knowledge Base, Review and troubleshoot record import errors, https://knowledge.hubspot.com/import-and-export/troubleshoot-import-errors (retrieved October 14, 2026). Check that page for the current wording before you re-import.
Check your CSV before you re-import
Pick your Company domain name column. We lowercase values and strip http, https, www and any page path before comparing. Your file stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How we fix it
- Export your companies with Record ID, Company name and Company domain name.
- Run the export through the checker above, using the Company domain name column. Each repeated domain is a group of duplicate companies.
- For each group, decide which company to keep, merge the duplicates in HubSpot, then re-import the file.
- If two companies really should stay separate, we use Record ID from a fresh export as the unique identifier for those rows instead of the domain.
- Before the next import, run your import file through the checker too, so the file itself has one row per domain.
