GoHighLevel CSV Import Errors: Causes and Fixes
GoHighLevel Import Fix
Want us to fix the file for you? We map your contacts to your exact pipelines, stages and custom fields and return an import-ready CSV plus a field map.
GoHighLevel's help article says most opportunity import errors are caused by missing identifiers, pipeline mismatches, incorrect update behavior or field-mapping problems. Below we go through each one, citing GoHighLevel's own help article, Importing Opportunities using a CSV file (retrieved 2026-10-13). Check that article for the current version before you import.
Before you upload
From the GoHighLevel help article:
- Save the file as CSV and keep it under the documented 30 MB limit.
- Create the pipelines you intend to use, and their stages, before importing. The Pipeline value in the CSV should correspond to an existing pipeline.
- Create any Opportunity custom fields first. They are separate from Contact custom fields.
- Test with a small sample file before a large import. Completed imports do not have a one-click undo.
Error: rows fail on an Opportunities-only import
For an Opportunities-only import, the help article says each row must contain a valid Contact ID, Opportunity Name and Pipeline. If your contacts do not exist in GoHighLevel yet, use a Contacts + Opportunities import instead, with contact and opportunity data on the same row.
Error: Pipeline is not accepted
The CSV import does not create pipelines for you. The article's fix is to confirm the Pipeline value matches an existing pipeline, and to create the pipeline before importing. We copy pipeline names from the account, character for character, before we build the file.
Opportunity lands in the wrong stage
Check the Pipeline Stage value and confirm that stage exists within the selected pipeline.
A new opportunity was created instead of an update
To update existing opportunities, include the Opportunity ID and map it. The article says a missing or incorrect Opportunity ID can make the importer create another opportunity instead.
Existing values were replaced by blanks
On update imports, enable Don't update Empty Values when blank cells should leave existing values unchanged.
Status values do not import
The article lists four opportunity statuses: Open, Won, Lost and Abandoned. Normalize your old CRM's status names to these before importing.
Some rows failed and others imported
- Go to Bulk Actions, find the import, and click Show Stats.
- Open the Error tab and download the error log.
- Fix the failed rows and re-import only those rows.
The article warns against re-importing the whole original file when only some rows failed, because the rows that succeeded already created opportunities.
Opportunity row builder
Type the exact names from your GoHighLevel account. The output is one CSV header and one row you can paste into a test file. Nothing is uploaded; it runs in your browser.
If you want us to build the file
